You overhear your manager in the stairwell: "Look, I'll have it by Friday, just don't tell anyone yet." It's a leaving cake. You spend three days updating your CV anyway. Your dad takes a call, walks out into the garden and lowers his voice. Affair, you think. It's the plumber, and your dad is agreeing a price he doesn't want your mum to hear. You ring the takeaway to complain they forgot the chips. Again. The man listens patiently, then asks, quite reasonably, why you keep ordering from them. The entertainer at your nephew's party is dressed as a pirate and spends half the party in the hallway on his phone saying "I told you, cash only, no questions." **Why it caught on:** someone in the full Ronald McDonald costume, red wig and striped sleeves, caught talking on a corded phone in a restaurant nobody has identified, proves that a children's mascot doing anything ordinary looks instantly suspicious.
